Dealing with Brett Sinclair was an absolute treat. He helped me out with the best price I could find in WA, a larger shed than anyone else would offer, and free delivery. I highly recommend this efficiently run company! Cheers, Brett.

I have ordered the shed from MSB Sheds & Carports in December last year. Super easy and professional company to deal with.
Delivery came from Queensland to Tasmania as discussed and I was very pleased with the quality of the shed.
Special mention to Brett for a great design and for keeping me informed all the way till arrival date.

We recently bought a carport / garage kit from MSB Sheds & Carports. Brett Sinclair was very helpful as we modified the kit to suit our space and requirements. Delivery of the kit was on schedule, checked of the list and all was there.
Rule 1: read the instructions.
Rule 2: read the instructions.
You need two reasonably competent people with basic tools and around 4-5 days with lunch and smoko breaks. Very happy with the quality and finish of the product. Pricing was good and company will help you all the way.
Picks on company site.

From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. The carport kit was supplied and delivered in a timely manner, and the entire process was handled professionally. My first dealings with Brett during the planning stage were particularly impressive- he was helpful, knowledgeable and made sure the design suited my exact needs. (high clearance for van and boat)

During the build, the instructions were straightforward and easy to follow, making the construction process smooth and hassle free. I built it with 2 mates helping, in a weekend.

The final result is exactly what I was hoping for.
Highly recommend this business to anyone looking for a quality carport backed up by great service.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission to build a carport in Melbourne, VIC?

You will likely need to obtain council permission before building anything permanent on your property. In most cases, an application will be approved provided it meets the criteria set out by Melbourne City Council.

• Do not build over the top of underground services like sewerage, water and stormwater pipes, and easements.
• The area of the new build must be set back 6 metres from the road frontage.
• Maximum height of usually no more than the current house heights in neighbouring properties.
• Maintain a rear and side boundary setback of 900mm; however, this may vary from street to street.

The council approval process is usually quite simple and is a matter of submitting an email with the following documents.

• Site plan: This is a map of your property showing where you will build your carport, along with other buildings, fence lines, and boundaries.
• Engineering plan and form 15 for the carport you plan to build. MSB provide this.
• Application forms.

How much is a steel DIY carport kit in Melbourne?

On the lower end, you can get a good flat-roof steel carport in a single size with a Colorbond® roof and trim with prices starting at $3,300. And a double size for as low as $4,400. A gable roof for a single starts at $4,095 for a single and $5,250 for a double. These prices are based on the assumption of wind region A for Melbourne, full wind shielding, and a standard height of 2.4m with cast-in ground footings.

Does MSB offer installation in Melbourne?

As much as we enjoy the construction process, we serve our Melbourne customers as DIY kit suppliers only. This is because our business model works best serving the DIY and project manager market, as we are able to offer better steel prices with a larger volume of sales.
