Is a skillion shed dearer than a gable shed?

To build a carport on your property, you will need approval from the council, as specific rules must be followed; these are explained further.

This information is for properties in residential neighbourhoods in the Low-Density Residential Zone, Low-medium Density Residential zone, Medium-density Residential zone, or Rural Residential Zone. If your land is in a different zone, it is best to contact the Council directly to discuss any additional or alternative requirements that may apply.

Here is a list of rules you must follow when building a carport in the Gladstone Council area.

1. Clear of underground services like sewerage, water and stormwater pipes, and easements.
2. Setback 6 metres from the road frontage.
3. Maximum height of 2 storeys and/or 9 metres.
4. There is a 5m setback where the shed is 4.5 metres high. Setback requirements increase for structures higher than 4.5 metres.
5. Buildings can cover a maximum of 50% of the property.

The council approval process is usually quite simple and is a matter of submitting an email with the following documents.

• Site plan—This is a map of your property showing where you will build your carport in relation to other buildings, fencelines, and boundaries.
• Engineering pland and form 15 for the carport you plan to build. MSB provide this.

Very happy with our carport purchased from Modern Steel Buildings. Brett was very helpful in the design stage and provided lots of great advice and support. The carport was delivered and looks great. We had some minor issues with damaged panels on supply, but Brett spoke with the local supplier and the items were replaced at no cost within a few days. Excellent carport. Really shows off the driveway and unit as well as being good protection for the car from the sun. With mine I ordered it a bit longer so I can get my trailer in front of the car so everything looks tidy from the street. Brett was always there if you needed any information at all. Wasn't too long after ordering it that the carport was delivered to my address and may I say well packed and secured with no damage. Would recommend this company. Ian Batchelor.
