Frequently asked questions about our Skillion Sheds
Is a skillion shed dearer than a gable shed?
To build a carport on your property, you will need approval from the council, as specific rules must be followed; these are explained further.
This information is for properties in residential neighbourhoods in the Low-Density Residential Zone, Low-medium Density Residential zone, Medium-density Residential zone, or Rural Residential Zone. If your land is in a different zone, it is best to contact the Council directly to discuss any additional or alternative requirements that may apply.
Here is a list of rules you must follow when building a carport in the Gladstone Council area.
- Clear of underground services like sewerage, water and stormwater pipes, and easements.
- Setback 6 metres from the road frontage.
- Maximum height of 2 storeys and/or 9 metres.
- There is a 5m setback where the shed is 4.5 metres high. Setback requirements increase for structures higher than 4.5 metres.
- Buildings can cover a maximum of 50% of the property.
The council approval process is usually quite simple and is a matter of submitting an email with the following documents.
- Site plan—This is a map of your property showing where you will build your carport in relation to other buildings, fencelines, and boundaries.
- Engineering pland and form 15 for the carport you plan to build. MSB provide this.
- Application forms.
