What are the different roof styles available?
There are many options to consider when choosing the right carport kit design for your property.
Here are a few of our most popular design options to choose from:
Flat roof
Flat roof carports are designed with a mono-pitch that uses a single rafter from one side to the other. This provides a free span from side to side, creating a functional internal space and an even appearance from all angles. This design is straight forward to construct and looks great.
Gable roof
Gable roof carports are pitched roof designs that allow for additional interior headroom and a traditional pitched roof appearance. This carport style is available in an open-end type structure and can also be supplied with gable end infills. The open gable provides extra internal space, and the infills provide more shelter and protection.
Skillion roof
The Skillion roof carport is great for an elegant, modern, and cost-effective roof design. With a roof-sloping angle of 2, 5, and 10 degrees, the Skillion carport design is versatile and can be both an architectural masterpiece and a simple design. It utilises a single rafter from side to side, which makes it an economical choice.
What other designs and styles are available?
Here are a few more of our most popular design options.
Attached
Attach directly to your fascia, the wall, or the roof as a fly-over attachment. We can provide a design that attaches to your house in many ways. The attached carport is available in gable, skillion, hip roof, and Dutch gable roof styles.
Add a roller door
Suppose you’re looking for a carport with additional protection with a roller door at the front. In that case, we can help you by designing a carport with a roller door that includes all the necessary components to create this design. We have electric roller doors with remote control in gable and skillion designs. However, please note that these doors are only available for free-standing structures.
Double size
Cover up both cars with a double carport. A double-size carport is typically 6x6m square but can also be altered to suit any similar size. The double carport is available in any of our fourth roof styles. Get in touch today for a quote.
Still, looking for a suitable roof style for your home or business?
Here are a few more design options for you:
Single
Suitable for a single vehicle covering an area of approximately 3 x 6m or 18m2, the single carport is a sample size that can be easily added to any driveway. This carport size is popular for those with smaller driveways and parking spaces.
Hip Roof
An elegant design that is a step above the rest, the hip roof carport offers a seamless roof style from all four angles and provides complete coverage and protection. This design suits most modern homes and gives the appearance of being part of the home rather than a bolt-on. If you have a hip roof on your home roof, consider a hip roof for your carport design.
Dutch gable
The Dutch gable is a beautiful roofing style with an elegant centred roof design. It adds a unique charm to your house and will impress your neighbours. The Dutch gable carport is available in various sizes and can be adjusted to fit your carport area. The roof’s pitch can also be altered to suit your height requirements.

DIY Carports – “Simply Bolts Together”
Are you ready to put your handyman skills to the test?
You can also save money by arranging your own installation. Whoever is building your carport will find the process easy and quick as all the components are pre-cut to length.
- This means that there is no major cutting required on site during the construction process.
- All bearers and rafters are pre-punched and pre-drilled for ease of connection, with a specifically designed bracket for each connection.
- Your frame will go together like a big Meccano set.
Note: you will need to drill the holes in the top and bottom of your posts as we are unable to do that for you. Although there can be a bit of cutting and folding involved to correctly fit your gutters and flashings, if you are up for the challenge, then you won’t find a better supplier of DIY carport kits.
What’s included in my delivery?
All orders come with all the necessary components for your building project. The roof sheets, and strcutural components are cut to size ready for connection with the use of brackets. Included items are;
- roof sheet,
- fasteners,
- barge capping and flashings,
- posts and columns,
- connection brackets,
- post base plates (if bolt-down option)
- extra column length (if cast in-ground option)

- guttering and down pipes
We strive to provide a fully comprehensive kit so that you have everything you need to successfully complete your project.

How do you fix the posts to the ground?
We offer two different footing options: you can cast the posts into the ground or bolt down using a footing plate bracket.
Some people prefer to cast the posts into the ground, while others prefer to use hold-down brackets and bolts to bolt the posts down.
Both methods are sufficient and depend on your construction method. Call so we can help you with yours.
FAQ’S.
How much does a carport kit cost?
If you’re looking for a double carport kit, the cost can vary depending on various factors, such as the roof style, size, type of material used, number of posts, and more. Generally, you can expect to budget around $5,000 to $6,000 for a double carport. For a single carport with a basic skillion roof, the cost is around $3,500. If you want something more advanced, like a hip roof or Dutch Gable carport, the cost for a double carport can range from $7,000 to $9,000.
What is the process to obtain council approval to build a carport?
If you’re planning on constructing a carport on your property, obtaining approval from the council is crucial by submitting an application for a planning or building permit. The council will request various documents, which include council application forms that you can obtain from them, engineering and architectural plans that we can provide to you, a site plan that shows the size and position of the structure to property boundaries and other buildings that you can order online or acquire from a local surveyor for around $250 – $500, Form 15 that we can provide to you, and a stormwater runoff plan. Once you have all the necessary paperwork, you can submit your application through the building and planning department. It usually takes two to six weeks to receive approval.
What is included in a pre-fab steel carport delivery?
At MSB, we provide a comprehensive order that contains all the required components to complete your project. Your order will include all structural parts, fasteners, guttering, flashings, brackets, and various other small pieces to guarantee a thorough and complete kit.
What sizes are available?
Our Carports kits are available in various sizes, including single, double, triple, and 4-bay carports. Some designs are even larger and ideal for commercial use. Most people aim to cover a specific area, usually accommodating 1, 2, or 3 vehicles or more. It’s possible to design the carport roof to a particular size to cover the desired area. However, it’s important to note that a typical car space is three meters wide and six meters long. Therefore, a full car carport should be around 6 meters deep and 12 meters long. Keep this in mind when customizing your carport size.
Can I build my carport kit or do I need to hire a builder?
If you’re a DIY owner builder, you can choose to build a carport or shed on your property. It’s important to know that you’ll need a builder’s license to do so. You can obtain a permit as an owner builder through the Queensland government’s proper channels. This involves a short course that usually takes about half a day and may cost a few hundred dollars. See this link for information on becoming an owner builder in QLD.
Is building your own carport kit cheaper than hiring a builder to do it for you?
Typically, a builder would charge between $15,000 to $30,000 for a custom ground-up carport build, depending on the materials used, size, and roof style. However, purchasing a pre-engineered design that can save you a lot of money as it eliminates the design, drafting and engineering step in the process that a builder would charge for, which can be very expensive. If you plan to build the carport yourself, there are no installation costs, which will save you even more money. Alternatively, you can hire a licensed tradesperson to install the carport for you, giving you the flexibility to manage the project and obtain multiple quotes to ensure an economical build. Therefore, purchasing a pre designed and pre-engineered kit and either erecting it yourself or hiring a licensed tradesperson to install it for you can be a lot cheaper than having a builder construct it from the ground up.
