Do I need building approval to build a shed or carport?
If you are planning to construct a shed or carport in Kingaroy, it’s recommended that you get in touch with South Burnett Regional Council and discuss your plans with them, including the location of the carport on your property. They will provide you with initial information on the permissible distance from boundary lines and the size of the building you’re allowed to build. In some cases, you may require council approval, while at other times, you may be exempted, such as for small sheds on residential house blocks or rural and farm sheds. For the correct information, please contact the council
What is the process to obtain council approval?
To obtain council approval, you can submit your application directly to the council or through a private certifier. You will need to provide a site plan, form 15 and engineering plans of the building you intend to construct. The council approval process may take anywhere from three to eight weeks depending on the complexity of your application.
What is included in my shed kit or carport kit?
We aim to provide a comprehensive building kit that includes all the necessary structural components, such as roof sheeting, purlins and girts, wall shading, fasteners, flashings, and barge capping. Additionally, we offer a construction guide to assist you with the installation process. If you have any doubts about what’s included in the kit, we recommend discussing this with your design consultant to ensure that you receive all the necessary components to complete your project. In some cases, you may even be able to build your own kit.
Can I build my own shed or carport?
If you hold a current owner builder licence, you can construct your own shed, carport, garages or class 10 building in Queensland. Obtaining an owner builder licence is a simple process that involves completing a half-day course that costs approximately $500. Once you have completed the course, you can apply for the licence. With the licence, you can take charge of the project and start working on it.
